Education: University at Buffalo – BS Business Administration (HR concentration); Canisius – MS Education

Academic Path: I entered UB as an intended business (marketing) major with the desire to pursue a career as a buyer for a large retail organization (women’s fashions). However, after completing internships in the fields of business and education, I earned my degree with a focus in human resources. I then pursued graduate studies in education, and in 1998, began my career in higher education as an academic advisor for the University at Buffalo. I first served as an advisor for underrepresented (African American, Hispanic and Native American) student populations. In 2000, I moved into the position of pre-law advisor and developed the Pre-Law Student Services Center. In 2003, I was promoted to assistant director of Student Advising Services (now Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center). In 2008, I was appointed as the Director of Academic Advisement and Student Advising Services (Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center). And, in 2018, I was promoted to director, Academic Success Initiatives. I tremendously enjoy working at the university and providing guidance to students as they pursue their academic and career goals.

Hobbies and Interests: Reading, listening to music, traveling, attending basketball games, meditating/mindfulness practices and spending time with my sons and granddaughter.

Education: BA English, Canisius College; MS Rehabilitation Counseling

Academic Path: I pursued an undergraduate degree in English because I greatly enjoy creative writing and reading about all kinds of people and their life stories. As an academic advisor, I greatly enjoy working with students and inspiring students to consider all of the possibilities that their lives can bring.

Education: University at Buffalo, 2008 – BA Psychology/Health & Human Services, Early Childhood Concentration, 2010 – EdM School Counseling

Academic Path: I came to UB intending to be a business major because I thought that was the route students took when undecided on a career path. However, I then received my first semester schedule and saw that I would be taking economics, so I immediately decided that I no longer wanted to pursue a business degree. I always had an interest in human behavior and why people do what they do, therefore I decided to pursue psychology as a major. I eventually supplemented the social sciences interdisciplinary major with the health & human services concentration, early childhood track and decided that I wanted to go to graduate school after completing my bachelor’s degree. I went to UB for school counseling with the intent to be a high school counselor. During graduate school, I worked as a graduate assistant academic advisor and discovered my true passion for helping students navigate their academic curriculum at UB.

    Specialty Area: Prehealth

Hobbies and Interests: I enjoy spending quality time with my husband and 2 small children, exploring the world through their eyes.

Education: Geneseo, BA Math with Secondary Education Certification; University at Buffalo, Masters in Social Work; Buffalo State, MS Student Personnel Administration

Academic Path: Growing up, I was often encouraged to go into teaching and I frequently helped my friends with math, which is how I decided on math education without looking at any other options. However, within the first year of a full-time teaching job, I realized it wasn’t for me. I wanted to help students outside of the classroom so I went into social work. I worked with a variety of age groups before choosing to narrow my focus to college students. It took some trial and error for me to figure it out, as is common for many people, but I know I am now in the right place.

    Specialty Area: Prehealth

Hobbies and Interests: I love reading, music, movies, and most things that fall under the category of “geeky,” especially comic books and sci-fi.
